Police have made arrests following the discovery of a “suspect package” in Golden Square.

A spokesperson for VicPol told our newsroom that officers attended a Mackenzie Street West address on Monday, July 20th, where they located the item “inside an allegedly stolen vehicle” around 9.20am.

“The Bomb Response Unit attended, disassembled the device and have deemed the area safe,” the spokesperson confirmed.

Two men were arrested at the scene, with a 27-year-old male later released pending further enquiries, and a 37-year-old man charged with theft of motor vehicle.

The older male was bailed to appear before the Bendigo Magistrates Court on September 1st.

A similar incident occurred on the same street back in February which saw two men in their 40s arrested, but at this stage the events are not believed to be linked.
