Total Fire Ban for Parts of Central Victoria

Residents in the the Central Victorian towns of St Arnaud and Avoca are being instructed a total fire ban is in place throughout Friday.

Bureau of Meteorology issuing a extreme fire danger rating for the Wimmera and much of the state’s south west.
 
No fires can be lit in the open air until Saturday.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said the conditions could make it difficult for firefighters to supress a fire if it starts.
 
“People need to be aware of the increased fire danger and ensure your fire plan covers all possible contingencies.”
 
Farmers should ensure machinery is free from faults and mechanical defects, fitted with spark arrester and carries fire suppression gear.

The weather will turn on Saturday morning with 26°C and 27°C forecast for both Avoca and St Arnaud. 
 
In addition, there’s a high chance of showers.
