A pair of students enrolled at Bendigo TAFE are being recognised as two of Victoria’s best apprentices.
They were honoured at the recent Bendigo Regional Apprentice of the Year Awards, hosted by Master Builders Victoria (MBV) and held at the All Seasons Hotel on Tuesday, March 10th.
Finn Palmer received the Chairperson’s Award for his “perseverance and quiet determination, balancing school, sport, and a school-based apprenticeship,” according to MBV.
Fellow Bendigo TAFE enrollee Myles Newstead, meanwhile earned the Craftsperson Award, with judges saying :“his passion for fine craftsmanship and sharp eye for detail and design made him a standout candidate for the award.”
This year’s main prize, the Junior Apprentice Award went to carpenter and SuniTAFE student Thomas Miller, who’s being described as “hardworking and driven” with a “bright future ahead”.
MBV chief executive Michaela Lihou says she’s continually impressed by the calibre of apprentices across the state.
“Young tradespeople like Finn, Myles and Thomas display incredible dedication and commitment to their work and are clearly passionate about the building and construction industry,” Ms Lihou said.
“My sincerest congratulations to all the nominees and the winners; they will no doubt inspire more young people to consider a career in our industry.”
All three winners will now represent the North-West region at the Victorian State Apprentice of the Year Awards, being held at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on Wednesday, May 13th.
