Campaign promises are flowing thick and fast as the battle for Bendigo heats up.
Thursday, November 5th saw Labor spruiking a $20 million pledge to establish a Clean Economy Hub at Bendigo TAFE’s Charleston Rd campus.
Government frontbencher and Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes was joined by the party’s candidate for Bendigo West, Brenton Baldwin and Bendigo East contender Tim Rickwood for the on-campus announcement.
“This will create 600 extra TAFE places in our local system and equip students with the skills they need for the secure jobs of the future,” Mr Baldwin said on social media.
“These things happen under Labor because we believe in renewables, we believe in young people and we believe in TAFE.”
Mr Rickwood shared his own post on social media, saying: “This means modern training facilities, more opportunities for local students and the skills needed for growing industries like renewable energy, electrical trades and sustainable construction.”

Meantime, Labor’s main rivals the Nationals announced a commitment of their own at the Bendigo Military Museum on Pall Mall.
It’ll be putting $180 thousand in state funds toward the venue’s “Expanding the Story” project, which aims to share the stories of veterans from recent conflicts.
“The service and sacrifice of our contemporary veterans deserves to be recognised alongside those who served in earlier conflicts,” Nats candidate for Bendigo West, David Hutchings said in a statement.
“Many men and women from our region have served in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and peacekeeping operations around the world. Their experiences are an important part of our local story.”
His Bendigo East counterpart, Andrew Lethlean said the project was about more than preserving military history.
“It’s about honouring service, supporting veterans and helping younger generations understand the contribution made by those who have worn our nation’s uniform,” Mr Lethlean said.
