
Central Victorian farmers will benefit from the rollout of an $8 million program, introduced if the Liberal/National Coalition wins this month’s state election.

The Agriculture Futures Extension Program will help producers adopt new technologies and initiatives into their businesses.
Shadow minister for Agriculture and Central Victorian MP Peter Walsh told Gold that the program has previously been trailed in the region.

“With the Birchip Cropping Group, out in Birchip, which was very successful,” he said.
“What you find is that there is a lot of new ideas coming to market, a lot of research that’s being finalised, it’s about how that is actually communicated to the farming businesses.”.
The program intends to boost profitability, productivity, and environmental sustainability for primary producers.

“Victoria’s $17.8 billion agricultural industry relies on innovation to constantly adapt to a changing environment,” Mr Walsh said.
The program is forecast to be delivered to 40 separate producer groups through to 2027.
